Adult Evaluation and Crisis Stabilization Unit (AEU)
The Adult Evaluation Unit serves adults in psychiatric crisis. The program focuses on stabilizing psychiatric symptoms and preventing psychiatric commitment. Consumers admitted to AEU have exhibited life threatening, destructive or disabling behavior or symptoms requiring 24-hour monitoring and assessment. Each consumer completes a psychiatric diagnostic evaluation and receives 24-hour clinical care for an estimated stay of three to seven days. The focus is on returning consumers to their homes or to the least restrictive level of care as quickly as possible, with comprehensive aftercare plans.
AEU provides beds for individuals involuntarily admitted for evaluation. Following the evaluation, the AEU professional staff makes a recommendation to the Mobile County Probate Court regarding the consumer’s need for involuntary commitment or treatment in a less restrictive setting. AEU also provides beds for individuals who voluntarily admit themselves for psychiatric evaluation. |
