Medication Assisted Treatment
(formerly Gateway Outpatient Opioid Replacement Therapy)
Medication Assisted Treatment is an outpatient methadone maintenance program designed for consumers who are dependent on opiates. To gain admission to AltaPointe’s Medication Assisted Treatment program for opiate addiction, individuals should call (251) 666-2569.

The treatment goal is to stabilize the consumer by administering methadone, which prevents withdrawal symptoms and craving, and blocks the undesirable effect of illicit use of self-administered opioids.

Individualized treatment uses unscheduled urinalysis and individual therapy to prevent the need for a higher level of care. Staff members determine with what frequency and duration to provide counseling. They also assure that counseling is congruent with plans of treatment and regulations. Services include but are not limited to supportive therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, systemic therapy, behavior modification, skills training, and relapse prevention.

Consumers receive daily doses of methadone under very strict medical supervision in order to satisfy their inordinate need for opiate drugs. Enhanced services are available for women with dependent children or women that are attempting to regain custody of their children.

The treatment team, directed by a physician, regularly evaluates each consumer and provides take-home privileges based upon a drug-free urinalysis and appropriate behavior. A physician is available a minimum of two hours per week per every 50 consumers. This program also serves consumers residing along the Gulf Coast.

Specialized Women’s Program
The Specialized Women’s Program is an intensive outpatient substance abuse program that provides chemical dependency treatment services and intensive therapeutic activities to pregnant women and women with dependent children. The goal is to initiate and promote a consumer’s status free of chemicals of abuse. The program reduces traditional barriers to treatment by providing transportation, childcare and intensive case management services, which serve up to 60 consumers residing in Mobile and Washington counties. Services include but are not limited to supportive therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, systemic therapy, behavior modification, skills training, parenting, and relapse prevention.

Adult Intensive Outpatient Treatment
The Adult Intensive Outpatient Substance Abuse Treatment Program offers therapeutic services to individuals ages 19 and older with a substance abuse/dependence diagnosis that does not require detoxification. This program provides long-term service in the least restrictive environment, which allows consumers who need this service to continue their jobs while receiving services in an evening program. Consumers are required to attend a minimum of 100 hours of therapy over a six-month period to enhance recovery.

AltaPointe Expanded Adult Intensive Outpatient Treatment for Co-Occurring Disorders
The Adult Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program for Co-Occurring Disorders serves a specialized population, age 19 or older, that have a co-occurring psychiatric diagnosis and substance abuse issues, as well as barriers to treatment such as lack of transportation and financial resources. To qualify for these services, consumers must be medically stable and free of withdrawal symptoms, hallucinations or severe dementia. This program allows for individualized interventions, which will consider the consumer’s psychiatric disability, extent of substance use and associated problems.
